I have less entries with my subject headings search than with my keyword search.
b)As you examine these results, are they more on target than the results you retrieved from your keyword search?
Yes, they are more on target than the results i receive from my keyword search.
c)Why?
Well, i guess it narrow down the search. The key word search would just search for things that have the key words I'm searching for versus subject heading search which based the search on the topics I'm searching for. That's why i believed the results i receive are more narrow and exact. But then again, i only got one entry for my subjects heading and it all point back to the e-book i start out with. So i assume that book answers all the questions i might have or search for.

You've experienced a sort of "loop," where you only end up with the same result from which you began, which can be frustrating.
ReplyDeleteIn a case like this, one thing to try is cutting off the back end of the subject heading and looking at something that's just a little broader. For example, you clicked on
Hydroelectric power plants -- Ontario -- Moose River Watershed -- History
If you go into the subject index of the catalog, you could look at
Hydroelectric power plants -- Canada
although when I did that, there was only 1 book there, too. It was a different book, however.
You could also look just at
Hydroelectric power plants -- United States
if you wanted to look at the U.S. picture. There are 4 books under that heading.
And, finally, there's just
Hydroelectric power plants
which has 2 books.
If you look at all those and check the indexes in the back of the books themselves, you will probably find references to power plants in various parts of the country, including the one in which you're interested.
Later, when we look at databases, you will find that your original specificity will work fairly well, I think.
I'd certainly rather see you be too specific at this point than too broad.
