1. How can a balance be achieved between protecting privacy and meeting the needs of national security? (1 point)
->the balance can be achieved through by having a mutual agreement/understanding between meeting the national security and protecting the privacy. in order to reach a mutual agreement/understanding, there must be respect.

2. How did you react to the list of challenged books (were you surprised, for example)? Do you think some books should be banned or should all books be freely available? Why?
->when i see the list of challenged books, quite frankly, i was surprised because most of the books i see in the challenged books i recognize and have already read some of them in high school. Personally, i didn't think they would be in the challenged book list, they weren't hard reading, its just that some of issues discussed in the books were class worthy "discuss topics/questions". if i have to pick among those two choices, i would pick all books should be freely available because that choices sound better. i didn't really have a problem with any of those books. anyway, they should not be banned just because i feel they should be.

3. How have your overall ideas about information ethics changed or not changed after completing this unit?
->well, in some ways i guess my overall ideas about information ethics changed after completing this unit. I never thought about how long the copyrights on books/material lasted. i just always assume they will copyrighted forever. its probably because i never given it much thought.
-->Anyway, even though i don't like the prohibiting system, i appreciate the system because everyone have a different outtake and opinions. therefore, everyone's personal opinions and feelings must be appreciated and thus, the prohibiting system works in some regions.

if the owner is the publisher and that person paid the author to write the book or if the author decided to publish their work, they would get paid accordingly to the profit they made from the sales, of course how much book sold minus how many copies of books made = left over profits. Anyway, the author find a publisher to publish their work, the publisher publish the book, then the faculty members recommends the textbook,the library may buy some copies for the students to borrow in the library or might digitize a portion for online access, students may either choose to buy, borrow or look for it online.

Well, everyone likes things to be free, so its hard to create a fair arrangement for every single person to follow. another fair arrangement for people could be consider, is by considering an affordable price for the copyrighted material. if its not overly expensive, people would consider purchasing the items.

sclerotial germinating stimulant is garlic powder used in the food processing industry. In
this study garlic powder was incorporated into the soil at three rates. Periodically
thereafter, the number of viable sclerotia in the soil dropped significantly in the treated
plots, approaching the degree of sclerotia mortality achieved with an application of methyl
bromide. Being a natural plant product, garlic powder is a readily available,
environmentally compatible, renewable resource that should pose no problem to worker
safety." pg 6

1. Which database did you choose for your first search?
Britannica Online.
2. What terms did you enter to conduct your search?
the term i use is "renewable energy"
3. How many results did you retrieve?
there is 3 results as my topics. for text- there is about 31 results.
4. If there were more than about 100 results, how did you refine your search terms to narrow your results? there is not over 100 results. if there were, i would have change renewable energy into wind power or biofuel.
5. Once you got your results to around 100 (or fewer), how did you determine they were meaningful?
Well, i look for one that is most closest to my results. like for example->
renewable energy -> i would pick renewable energy, energy convention, biofuel ( if i wanna branch into the renewable energy as in brake up my topic to be more specific.
so basically, i just look from ones that i deem closest enough or meaningful.

1. Which of your questions did you try to answer? a. How much energy are generated using water flow?
2. What EXACT terms did you enter into the keyword search screen? The term i first entered is renewable energy.

When i look at the reference work, i choose "renewable energy" because i believed it gives me the overall understanding of all the basic renewable energy source today.

Well, i think the regular book is just a book that have more specific information on a large scale, while the reference book is informational like a dictionary. So that's why the reference book is more helpful
when a person is looking when they want to know some information about it and not the whole entire book full of facts and information about it. Also, since a regular book have a lot of information, it tends to take longer to search for information.

In your own words, describe the difference between a keyword search and a subject heading search.
well, the keyword search is a search where it searches for the key words i type in the search bar. Or in order words, it highlighted the key words/phrases I'm looking for and search for them. That's why the search results is more broad. The subject heading search is more precise because it eliminates the broad searches so there less results. I guess it searches for the key words/phrases AND the subject of the search as well. That's why the searches are more helpful.

Yes, they are more on target than the results i receive from my keyword search.

Well, i guess it narrow down the search. The key word search would just search for things that have the key words I'm searching for versus subject heading search which based the search on the topics I'm searching for. That's why i believed the results i receive are more narrow and exact. But then again, i only got one entry for my subjects heading and it all point back to the e-book i start out with. So i assume that book answers all the questions i might have or search for.

Research Log Entry - 1 Point
a.What is Delicious?
Delicious is an online service tool to keep track of your bookmarks. They allow you to save, tag, see other people bookmarks, and manage those web sites. It does not limit you to only one computer and you could share your bookmarks to other people.
b.What is the advantage of this Web 2.0 tool?
Well there are many advantages for this web tool. It gives you an easier time to manage those bookmarks on more then one computer. You can also organize them by categories, and view other people bookmarks.
c.Do you think you might use it? If so, why? If not, why not?
I don't think i would like to use this web tool because i can manage my bookmarks fairly well, and could save and load my bookmarks on another computer if i wish. Although Delicious looks helpful, i personally don't think i would like to download and install this web tool just for the sakes of being able to manage my bookmarks and view other people bookmarks.
